Katrina Waltz-Hixon, 67, of Waldoboro, beloved wife of David Hixon, loving mother and grandmother, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Dec. 30, 2014 at home.
Born in Rockland, July 26, 1947, Kate was the daughter of Joseph and Camilla Sanborn Glaude of Waldoboro. She attended Waldoboro schools and was a 1965 graduate of Waldoboro High School. Kate also graduated from Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston as a Registered Nurse. She devoted 44 years to nursing, serving the mid-coast community until her retirement two years ago.
Kate married Charles Edward Waltz on Sept. 28, 1968 in Waldoboro. After a brief residency in Bangor, the couple settled in West Waldoboro where they raised their children Bethany L. Waltz and Aaron C. Waltz. Kate supported her husband’s business, Broad Bay Electric, for many years and subsequently ran the business after his death in 1998. In 1986, her love of cooking was personified in her desire to own and operate Kate’s Deli in Waldoboro for several years.
Kate met David Hixon in 2002 and they were married on Aug. 16, 2003 at Pemaquid Lighthouse. She welcomed David’s children Benjamin and Tess Hixon into her family and to their West Waldoboro home.
Kate served her community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary, Hospice, Bay Chamber Concerts, and Children’s Schools in Rockland, and was an advocate for children and the elderly. Her compassionate nature was exemplified through her nursing career and lent to her ability to care for her parents and grandparents. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and fundraising events.
She loved cooking, the arts, music, boating, and fishing with her husband and family, attending sporting and school events involving her grandsons, and enjoyed the company of friends; her food and hospitality was legendary. She lit a room with her smile and laughter; her joy of life embraced everyone and made them feel special. Kate adored her family and holidays, especially Christmas and birthdays.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles Waltz in 1998; and parents, Joseph and Camilla Glaude.
Kate is survived by her husband, David Hixon of Waldoboro; stepchildren, Benjamin and Tess Hixon of Massachusetts; daughter, Bethany Overlock, husband Duane and their children, Jared and Jacob of Warren; son, Aaron Waltz and companion Amy Whitney and their son Kellen of Waldoboro; sister, Juanita Thomas of Waldoboro and her daughter Erica and son Adam; brothers, Thomas Glaude and sons, Dillon and Mason of Waldoboro, and Robert Glaude, wife Rita and their son Robert Craig of Waldoboro; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; unofficial ‘adopted’ children including Brandon Scamfer of New York and Kristen Fitzpatrick and her family of Connecticut.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Sat., Jan. 10 at First Congregational Church, 55 Elm St., Camden. The Rev. Kevin Pleas will officiate.
