Kendall Freeland (Peter) Forsberg, 87, of Newington, Conn., passed away peacefully on Dec. 7. He was the beloved husband of Sabra Elizabeth (Betty) Dewey Forsberg.
Born in Worcester, Mass. on Jan. 31, 1931, he was the son of Carl and Ethel Forsberg. Peter graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and then served as an officer in the Navy for two years, continuing for 18 years in the Naval Reserves, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Following active duty, he earned his MBA from Stanford University. His career included positions with IBM, RCA and for much of his time, CBT (later, Fleet Bank) in Connecticut. He was an active member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, and served on several boards with HARC, an organization assisting citizens with intellectual and related disabilities.
Peter had been enjoying retirement for over 25 years. Both Peter and Betty were active with friends and family and participated in many outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing and kayaking. In retirement they traveled extensively worldwide including hiking across Scotland as well as in Spain and Vancouver Island. They enjoyed summers in Maine with family and friends.
Peter was known to friends and colleagues as a kind and generous person, who was easygoing and personable. A loving and devoted husband, brother, uncle, and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by son, Scott Forsberg.
In addition to Betty, his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his daughter Kristin Dunn and husband Thomas of Jefferson, and Newington, Conn.; son, Erik Forsberg of North Adams, Mass.; sister, Judy Olson of Grass Valley, Cal.; and grandchildren, Michelle Dunn and Eric Ashmore of Wethersfield, Conn., Laura Dunn Valtin and Jeremy Valtin of Durham, N.C., and Brian Dunn of New York, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thurs., Dec. 27 at Church of Christ Congregational, 1075 Main St., Newington, Conn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HARC, 900 Asylum Ave., Hartford, CT 06105-1985 or a charity of your choice.
