Kenneth Elwood Long, 83, of New Harbor, passed away on the morning of May 27th in Falmouth. Born in Emmaus, PA on March 10th 1929, he was the son of Elwood and Annie (Hartman) Long.
Upon graduating from high school, Ken entered the US Navy and served for over 20 years. Upon retiring from the Navy, he moved to Greene, Maine where he worked for the School Superintendent.
He would move to Round Pond in the 1970’s where he started to lobster, with the help of local lobstermen, Buddy Poland, Sr. and Jimmy Poland. He later went to work as a realtor in the Damariscotta area for Chapman Realty and Cheney Realty, before retiring in the late 1980’s.
Ken was always there to help his wife, Wini Long, with her career as a professional artist. Whether it was driving her around to places to paint, attending art shows, or making her frames, he was always there to help. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida and was an avid golfer, both here and in Florida.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Belinda “Lindy” Fletcher and her husband, Ron; and their children, Shayne, Andrea and Jessica.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Winifred, in 2009; as well as a brother-in-law, Woody Weidner.
He is survived by his daughter, Belinda Fletcher and her husband Ron of New Harbor; step-daughters, Bonnie Tucker and Barbara Peakes of Maine and Arizona respectively; sister, Shirley Weidner of Emmaus, PA; brother, Russell Long of Pennsylvania; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 6 nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at the New Harbor Cemetery in New Harbor.
