Kenneth Gosselin Jr., 57, of Boothbay Harbor, died on Aug. 1 at his residence after a long, brave battle with renal cell cancer.
Born Nov. 12, 1948, in Boothbay Harbor, he was the son of Mabel Casey and Kenneth Gosselin Sr., and graduated from Boothbay Region High School, class of 1967.
On Dec. 27, 1967, he married Karen Marshall in Niantic, Conn.
During his earlier years, he was employed as a welder in several local shipyards, and also was a part-time lobsterman. He was most well known for his over 30 summers working at Fisherman’s Wharf as a valet.
Everyone knew him for his friendly smile and greeting when arriving on vacation in Boothbay Harbor.
He and his wife Karen owned and operated Hillside Acres Cabins and Motel for 18 years.
Mr. Gosselin enjoyed following Boothbay Region High School sports throughout the years, watching his sons compete, and was two years coaching the track team. He also coached youth sports at the YMCA. He served on the board of directors of the Boothbay Region Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of Seaside Lodge # 144, A.F. & A.M.
An avid hunter, Mr. Gosselin looked forward to spending a week at a camp near Scraggley Lake, which was an annual ritual for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Karen Gosselin of Boothbay; two sons, John Gosselin and wife Kristen of Boothbay, and Mark Gosselin and wife Jennifer of Boothbay Harbor; three grandchildren, Dima and Tali Gosselin of Boothbay Harbor and Emily Gosselin of Boothbay; three sisters, Ethel Leeman of Damariscotta, Paula Bennett and husband David of Boothbay, and Lois Benedict and husband Andy of Boothbay Harbor; two brothers, Alan Gosselin and his companion Ester Harris of Manchester, and Lee Gosselin of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours Aug. 6 at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay.
Funeral Aug. 7 at the Boothbay Baptist Church, the Rev. Dan McNutt officiated. Following the service, all celebrated Mr. Gosselin’s life at the American Legion Hall in Boothbay. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay.
