Kenneth L. Chipman Jr., “Chip”, 82, of Round Pond, passed away peacefully on Jan. 23 at the Togus VA Medical Center. Born on July 28, 1932 in South Bristol, he was the son of Kenneth L. Chipman and Hazel Poor Chipman.
He attended South Bristol schools and graduated in 1951. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Chipman had nearly 20 years of military service, including time served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Chip enjoyed activities that involved his family and friends, including cookouts and lobster bakes, playing bingo, and poker games. He enjoyed playing Maine State Lottery games, especially trying his luck on the scratch off tickets.
He was a member of the American Legion Wells-Hussey Post 42, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans. He contributed regularly to veterans programs and charitable organizations that served veterans.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie Ann Poland Chipman; parents, Kenneth and Hazel; sister, Joyce Donahue; and stepchildren, James Andrew Jordan Jr., and Bonnie Sue Newkirk.
He is survived by children, Kenneth L. Chipman III and wife Sue, Richard Chipman, Barbara Coffin, Scott Chipman, and Carl Chipman and wife Tracy; step-son, Timothy Jordan; sisters, Gloria Gamage, and Patricia Poland and husband Arthur; as well as several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Chamberlain Cemetery in Round Pond, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
