Lanny Verrill, 71, of Woolwich, peacefully passed away at his home unexpectedly Jan. 4.
Lanny was born on Aug. 19, 1941 in Gardiner to the late Harry and Madeline Verrill. In 1949 Lanny’s father died at a young age of 47 and his mother moved to Claremont, N.H. to be close to her parents Cassie and Harold Mills. Madeline was employed by Al St. Aubin and Lanny became very close to his son, Norman St. Aubin. Norman was very much like a brother to Lanny. Lanny attended Stevens High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving for several years. Lanny was a member of the American Legion, Post 0178, Waterville.
Lanny owned and operated his own business located on Rt. 1 in Woolwich as Lanny’s Auto Body. Lanny’s shop was his home away from home where he thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with friends and family.
He loved “making his rounds” to his favorite restaurants at Miss Wiscasset Diner, Market Place Cafe and Hunter’s Breakfast. Lanny enjoyed socializing and joking with all the staff. He also enjoyed watching and sponsoring his son Mark racing at Wiscasset Speedway, Speedway 95 and Oxford Plains Speedway.
Lanny loved watching NASCAR, fishing, hunting and also engaged in camping and boating while a resident of Florida.
Lanny was predeceased by a half-brother, Melvin Verrill; half-sisters, Lewene Cole and Shirley Lewis of Massachusetts.
Lanny is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carol J. (DesRoches) Verrill of Woolwich whom he married in 1969; son, Mark Verrill and grandson, Cody Verrill of Woolwich; three children from his previous marriage, son, Ricky Verrill of Jacksonville, Fla., and daughters, Tammy and husband Jim Hedrick, and Robyn Saxon, all of Daytona Fla.; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennifer, Vicki, Ricky Jr., Dale, Amanda, and Cory; many great-grandchildren; many stepchildren including stepson Joe and wife Melissa Westleigh of Woolwich; stepdaughters, Debra and husband Jack Betz of upstate New York, and Theresa Westleigh of Glen Burnie, Md.; and step-grandchildren, Wednesday, Nicole, P.J., Misty, Azhley; many step-great-grandchildren; and half-brothers, Frank Leblanc Jr. of Claremont, N.H. and Ray Leblanc of N. Charlestown, N.H.
In respect of Lanny’s wishes there will be no services.
