Larry Ralph Sprague, 68, of Augusta, died peacefully on July 12 surrounded by his family.
Larry graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School in 1967, then went to college at the University of Maine in Gorham. He had a ton of friends and loved music. He participated in the All State and Western Maine Choirs and played clarinet. Larry loved being involved in the Gray and Maine Jaycees with wife Arlene and brother Wayne. Larry was always the life of the party, with a wicked sense of humor. Larry strove to be happy and avoid conflict, he always acted with integrity. He shared with his children his remarkably strong work ethic and his uncanny sense of direction. He never got lost. He was a great dad and so very proud of his son Jason and his daughter KiM. Larry especially loved his three grandchildren.
Larry loved his country music and was very active in DECMA, Down Eastern Country Music Association, and would drive a full bus of people to the Grand Ole Opry every year. He was always in his glory driving his truck or bus and listening to music. He had a love, since he was a young boy, of collecting coins, and Matchbox cars. Larry was also proud that he once drove Julia Roberts to a party.
Larry is predeceased by brother, Freddy Sprague; dad, Ralph Sprague Jr. and Larry’s wife, Arlene.
He is survived by son, Jason Sprague and girlfriend Crissy and granddaughter, Kimber Rose; daughter, Kimberly Capone-Sprague and husband Andy and grandchildren Oliver and Annalise; significant other, Sandy Coulombe; mom, Dorothy Sprague; sister, Martha Lamb and husband Dennis; sisters, Vicki Darling and husband Glen, and Jen York and boyfriend Todd Davis; brother, Wayne Fulton; great brother-in-law, George York; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A memorial visitation will occur 5-7:45 p.m., Mon., July 16 with a prayer service at Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Rd., Gray. A graveside service will held 2 p.m., Sat., July 21 in Shuman Cemetery, 649 Washington Rd., Waldoboro. There will be a celebration of Larry’s life, following, at the Veterans of Foreign War Hall on Mill St. in Waldoboro.
