Larry Robert Chapman, 58, of Chesterville and formerly of Warren, died unexpectedly Feb. 9.
Larry was born Aug. 3, 1950, at the Knox Hospital in Rockland to Joseph and Joyce (Simmons) Chapman. He grew up in Warren, attended area schools, and graduated in 1968 as a member of the last graduating class of Warren High School, where he played baseball and basketball. He attended the University of Maine at Farmington and Thomas College in Waterville. Larry was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 7 for many years until his death.
Larry was known for his incredible personality, his contagious smile and his effortless ability to make everyone around him laugh. He was extremely artistically talented and had many hobbies, including detailed wood carving, making homemade jellies and pies, and designing and creating beautiful pieces of jewelry. Larry never left the house without mason jars of jelly – seedless strawberry being the most famed – to give to friends, family or strangers.
Larry loved people and seemed to look forward to relentlessly teasing his nieces, nephews and family. He and his son Justin were as close as best friends could be. They traveled together, went fishing together and laughed together. Larry was a proud father, a loving son, a generous brother, a jovial uncle and a caring friend.
Larry was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Chapman; and his grandparents, Flora and Howard Norwood, Dot and Leland Chapman, and Annie and Ray Simmons.
Larry is survived by his parents of Warren and Clearwater, Fla.; son, Justin Chapman of Skowhegan; sister, Sandra Chapman of Waldoboro; two brothers, Jeff Chapman of Topsham and Robin Chapman of Thomaston; nieces, Jen Chapman, Carrie Stone, Brooke Grondin, Shannon Drummond and Monica Chapman; nephews, Matt Chapman and Kurt Chapman; great-nieces and nephews, Jonas, Guenivere, Duncan, Taylor, Matthew, Brian, Carter, Cassandra, Aeryn, Brady and Shawnte; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
