Lawrence E. Brown, 67, of New Harbor, passed away on July 11 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Born on Jan. 15, 1950 in Laconia, N.H., he was the son of the late William and Marjorie (Cronk) Brown.
Larry enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, right after high school, and was especially proud of his service. Upon his discharge, he remained in the Reserves while attending school to become an electrician.
Larry was not content to stay in one profession for long, and acquired many skills that would provide him with employment for the rest of his life. Along with becoming an electrician, he also fished in New Harbor with his good friend Edgar Drisko. He worked as a mechanic, carpenter, plumber and welder. He also worked in Moxie Cove Shrimp Factory, where he designed equipment that made the work more efficient.
He was a meticulous craftsman that took immense pride in the quality of his work. He was truly a Jack-of-all-trades, and mastered them all.
Larry was a quiet and gentle man, who kept mostly to himself. To those who knew him, he was brilliant and a master of many skills. Larry was well read, and had a curious mind. He could speak on any subject with passion and knowledge.
Larry is survived by brother, Jeff and wife Carol of Waldoboro; special friends from New Harbor; and the Mahan family of Pemaquid.
A small gathering, celebrating his life, will be held at Shannon Mahan’s home in Pemaquid at a later date.
