Donald E. Foster, 79, of South Bristol, passed away Jan. 29 at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Lynn, Mass. on March 6, 1931, he was the son of Carl and Patricia (Ringer) Foster.
Donald served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years, most of this time was spent in EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received his Commission as an Ensign in 1962, and retired from the service in 1972 as a Lieutenant Commander. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he went to work as a commercial fisherman, lobstering for over 30 years.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Terry Foster; and infant son, Wayne, who died at the age of 17 months as a result of an automobile accident.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia (Patti) Foster of South Bristol; children, Emma Finn of Portland, Ore., Paul and wife Sally of Belfast, Pamela Colson and husband Ralph of Swanville and Scott and wife Sandy of Auburn; sister, Joyce Parmelee of Damariscotta; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
At Donald’s request, there will be no service.
