Lee Rasmussen, 86, of Friendship, died Jan. 14 at her home. She was born April 27, 1924 to Harvey A. and Susie Smith Simmons. Lee graduated from Newton High School in the class of 1941. She attended Dana Hall in 1942 and graduated from Simmons College in June 1946. During WWII Lee served with U.S.O. Lee married Arnold Rasmussen on Aug. 23, 1947 in a joint wedding with her sister, Mary Carlson and her husband Sumner.
She worked at Simmons College as a clerk. Lee and Arnold moved to Friendship in 1953. Lee was a third grade school teacher at Friendship Village School. She lastly worked at the Rockland Congregational Church for many years as the church secretary.
Lee enjoyed baking Christmas cookies and rolls, gardening, bridge club, sewing, knitting, needlework and spending time on Friendship Long Island with her family which she had done since childhood. She was a member of the Community Club in Friendship, co-founder of the Community Club calendar, and was a member of the Stone Scott Watson V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was also awarded mother of the year numerous times by her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold F. Rasmussen; son, Charles H. Rasmussen; and by a sister, Mary S. Carlson.
She is survived by sons, John F. Rasmussen and wife Joanne of Friendship, Robert A. Rasmussen and wife Dawn of Union and Peter C. Rasmussen and wife Patty of Cushing; daughter, Susie Batty and husband Thornton of So. Thomaston; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Rasmussen of Union; brother-in-law, Sumner Carlson of Friendship; grandchildren, Michelle Risch of Owls Head, Letha L. Rasmussen of Waldoboro, Marice Rasmussen of Union, Rebecca Dalrymple of Redwood City, Cal., Matthew Rasmussen of Union, Stacy Densmore of Richmond, Mindy Davis of Thomaston and Cristen and Carl Rasmussen of Cushing; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Cheryl-Lynn, Jacob, Calob and Charles; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Thurs., Jan. 20 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Memorial service will be held the following week, 4 p.m., Fri., Jan. 28 at the Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Harbor Cemetery in Friendship in the spring.
