Leon Everett Tibbetts, 78, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away on Sept. 28 at his residence surrounded by his family, following a long illness.
He was born in Boothbay Harbor on April 22, 1929, the son of Chester E. and Millie Rowe Tibbetts. He was a graduate of Boothbay High School, class of 1948.
Leon was a lifetime fisherman, and also worked with his brother, Vincent Tibbetts, at Boston Fuel Transportation, and various area boatyards. He also owned and operated the Broken Anchor Fish Market and Broken Anchor Restaurant.
On Jan. 7, 1950, he married Marilyn Pinkham Tibbetts, and together they raised their children.
He enjoyed working on building projects in his shop. He loved music, especially listening to his grandchildren playing the piano. He was a trumpet player with the Lawrence Lewis Band at various dances and minstrel shows for many years.
He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Vincent, Max, Herbert and Clinton; and sister, Muriel Tibbetts Reed.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Pinkham Tibbetts of Boothbay Harbor; daughter, Lauretta Davis of Greenville; son, David Tibbetts of Boothbay Harbor; grandchildren, Evelyn Leigh Tibbetts and Bradford Leon Tibbetts, both of Boothbay Harbor; niece, Miriam “Pinky” Cresta of Wakefield, Mass.; and nephew, Vincent Tibbetts of Gloucester, Mass.
At Leon’s request, there will be no services. His wish was to have his cremains scattered at the Elbow in Linekin Bay.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Leon’s memory to the Fisherman’s Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 304, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 or to the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church, Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
Arrangements are entrusted to Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay.
