Leonard Byron Hook, 81, of Dresden, passed away peacefully Oct. 21 at Mid Coast Hospital with his family by his side.
Leonard was born April 12, 1933 to Prentis and Mary Ellen Hook in San Augustine, Tex. and graduated from Pascal High School in Fort Worth, Tex. in 1951.
Shortly after graduating, Leonard joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring after 25 years serving his country as a Master Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy, Leonard moved his family to Maine and worked as a Quality Assurance Supervisor for the Supervisor of Shipbuiding at Bath Iron Works for 21 years.
Leonard was known for many things, especially his love of gardening and smoking meats for his famous Texas BBQs to share with his family and friends, served with a smile and a “Little Texas humor.” He loved traveling and visiting his family in Texas and his children wherever they might be around the world.
Leonard leaves behind his children, Kevin, Karen, Kelly, Jeff and wife Lisa, Keith and wife Cathy, Jon and wife Midori, and Cindy and husband Ed; 13 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Gerry Hook; sisters, Sue and husband Jesse Garsee, Barbara and husband James Wingo, and Pamela Smith; several nephews; beloved uncle, Robert, all of Texas; extended family, Carolyn Robinson, and daughter Lynette, husband Craig and son Alan of Warren.
A gathering will be held from 4-5 p.m., Fri., Oct. 24 at Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond with a service to follow at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of life will follow the service at The Old Goat, Main St., Richmond.
