Leonard Post Waterman, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 7.
Leonard was born in the Bronx, New York, N.Y. on Aug. 28, 1924, a son of Leonard Edward and Azelda Post Waterman.
He graduated from Malverne High School, and Brooklyn Polytechnical Institute in New York as a mechanical engineer. His education was interrupted in 1943 while he served in the U.S. Army Air Force from Dec. 19, 1944 thru Oct. 19, 1945, completing 21 combat missions. After returning to the United States he completed his education at Brooklyn Polytech in New York and went to work for the Nabisco Company.
After receiving his degree he married Beverly MacCarn and together they made their home in Lynbrook, N.Y. Len and Bev had five children.
After sensing a call to ministry, Leonard attended Gordon Cornwell Theological Seminary in Boston, Mass., obtaining his Masters in Divinity. Len was a new church planner for the Conservative Baptist Home Mission Society. He started five churches in the New England area and coordinated the new church ministry until his retirement in the early 1990’s.
Leonard was an avid student of God’s word. He was an active member of Somers Baptist Church in Connecticut and a recent member of the First Baptist Church of Waldoboro.
He collected coins, stamps and WWII memorabilia. He loved to run and jog and won many awards for track and field during his school years.
He will be sadly missed by his family.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Beverly Waterman; daughter, Lois W. Mitchell; and sister, Edith Waterman Sanborn.
Survivors include his daughters, Laura Lockhart and husband Mike Hunt of Manchester, Conn., Margaret Kuehl and husband Dan of Senlis, France, and Ruth Beck and husband Dan of Waldoboro; son, Tim Waterman and wife Blanca of Pyote, Tex.; grandchildren, Kristie Reed and husband Mark of Carmel, Brianna Waterman of El Paso, Tex., Noelle Beck of Waldoboro, James Mitchell and wife Kim of Forest, Va., Andrew and Amy Kuehl of Virginia, Ben Kuehl of Chicago, Ill., David Kuehl of Clarks Summit, Penn., Peter Kuehl of Upland, Ind., Nathan and Noah Beck of Waldoboro, Geoffrey and Danny Waterman of Midland, Tex., and Paul Kuehl of Senlis, France; great-grandchildren, Lyndsee and Eli Reed of Carmel, and Kara Kuehl of Virginia; daughter-in-law, Patti Spiser of Midland, Tex.; and son-in-law, Lance Mitchell of Elmhurst, Ill.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date at the Somers Baptist Church in Connecticut.
A graveside service will be held this spring at the German Protestant Cemetery with a date and time to be announced.
