Leroy E. Olson, 91, of Westport Island, died Aug. 17 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick. He was born in Cornwall, N.Y. on Oct. 28, 1922, a son of Edwin L. and Gustava Olson.
In 1941 he graduated from Granville High School in Granville, N.Y. From 1941 to 1945 he was a Merchant Marine during the period of armed conflict. Lee had been employed at Jack & Heintz, Higbee Company, Albion Jr. High School, all in Strongsville, as well as Divinity Lutheran Church in Parma Heights. On March 25, 1972 he married his true love Dorothy Mae Wells and had a wonderful marriage for 41 years until her death.
Lee was very proud of his Eagle Scout status, being a loyal blood donor and his 20 years of volunteering at Southwest General Hospital in Strongsville. Lee was an avid stamp collector and model railroader.
He made his new home with his daughter-in-law, Pam Frenier until moving to Hill House Assisted Living in Bath. He is also survived by one stepson, Scott Frenier and wife Francine of Massachusetts; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at a later date for immediate family.
