Lester Hall Vinal Jr., 83, of Nobleboro, went home to be with the Lord Dec. 9 at his home. He was born Sept. 1, 1926 in Damariscotta, a son of Lester Hall Vinal Sr. and Harriet Dodge Vinal. He attended Lincoln Academy until he was drafted into service for WWII. He served in the U.S. Navy.
After the war he worked for local carpenters, then later worked for himself as a carpenter. He lastly worked at Bath Iron Works as a tin smith until he retired. He enjoyed old cars, watching the birds and volunteering with friends at the Owls Head Transportation Museum. He also was very active with anything his wife, Willa, volunteered him for.
He was an usher at the Nobleboro First Baptist Church, 60 year member of the Nobleboro Grange, American Legion and Cooperative Extension. His sense of humor will always remain with his family. He was cracking jokes until the very end.
He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Frances Ramona; daughter-in-law, Tally Vinal; and brother, William Vinal.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Willa Peck Vinal of Nobleboro; children, Catherine Ames and husband Dale of Fort Fairfield, Jeanne Gram and husband Bruce of Orono, Margaret Grover and husband Mark of Freeport, Lawrence Vinal and wife Diane of Augusta, Carolyn Bartholomae and husband Greg of Jefferson, John Vinal and wife Lena of Edgecomb, Christopher Vinal and wife Lisa of North Nobleboro, and Heather Vinal of Portland, Ore.; sisters, June Gudroe of Wiscasset, Evelyn Showstead of Everett, Mass., and Hilda Tyler of Woolwich; grandchildren, James Reilly of Austin, Tex., Sumner McKane of Wiscasset, Sara Grover of Freeport, Laura Baldassano of Long Island, N.Y., Max Vinal of Edgecomb, Tory Gram of Orono, Justin Bartholomae of Jefferson, Michaela Vinal of North Nobleboro, Quinn Vinal of Augusta, Annabelle Vinal of North Nobleboro, Ethan Bartholomae of Jefferson, Carolyn Jean Vinal of North Nobleboro, Arianna Vinal of Augusta, and Hudson Vinal of North Nobleboro; great-grandchildren, Harriet and Piper McKane both of Wiscasset; aunt, Marguerite Rice of Nobleboro; and several nieces and nephew.
Visitation Dec. 13 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Memorial service Dec. 14 at the Nobleboro First Baptist Church in Nobleboro. Pastor Robert Wyand officiated. Burial with military honors will be in the Dunbar Cemetery in Nobleboro next summer.
