Lester O. Wallace, 75, passed away Jan. 31 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport.
He was born in Waldoboro, on March 10, 1931, the son of the late Orrin I. Wallace and Naomi Russell Wallace.
He lived most of his life in Waldoboro and attended Waldoboro schools until he joined the Army in 1952, serving in the Korean Conflict until 1954.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, he married Bette R. Lee Wallace of Wellesley, Mass., on Dec. 18, 1953. Together they raised two daughters.
He delivered oil for the Waldoboro Garage Oil Company for 19 years and then went on to work for Maine Central Railroad for nearly 10 years. In between working at the Oil Company and Railroad, he loved to go clamming and lobstering. He went on to be the head custodian at Medomak Valley High School for 10 years, until his retirement in 1996. He wasn’t one for sitting around so he took on a part-time job cleaning for Master Clan for an additional five years.
He was a member of the Waldoboro Fire Dept. for 40 years, and was the Department Treasurer for many years as well. He was a member of the Waldoboro Ambulance Department when it was first started in the community, a member of the Knights of Pythius for many years, and a member of the American Legion for 36 years.
Over the years he enjoyed many family vacations throughout New England and all over Canada. He enjoyed being with family, especially the grandchildren, whom he took on special family trips.
He was predeceased by his brother, Earl Wallace, and sister, Maxine Therialt.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Bette R. Wallace of Thomaston; daughters, Janis Millett and husband Phillip (Jr.) of Verona Island, and Karen Elliott and husband Stuart of Warren; grandchildren, Steven Chadbourne and wife Michelle of Panama City, Fla., Lindsey Jenkins and husband Derek of Plymouth, Mass., and Sarah Elliott and boyfriend Jon Maxcy of Warren; great-granddaughters, Riley and Sydney Chadbourne of Panama City, Fla., and Hailey Jenkins of Plymouth, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
