Lewis F. Lipp, 96, passed away on the morning of May 7 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta.
The son of Lewis R. and Edith MacCaslin Lipp, he was born Feb. 18, 1911 in Dedham, Mass.
A lifelong horticulturist and author, Lew studied and worked at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, Mass., and the Holden Arboretum in Ohio. He was an inventor of growing plants under plastic, and a founder of Horticultural Therapy.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
