Lila M. Sproul, 75, of Newcastle, passed away at her home on the afternoon of June 2, with her loving family by her side. Born in Bristol Mills, Dec. 8, 1932, she was the daughter of Newell C. and Hazel (Steer) Gifford.
Growing up in Round Pond, she married Ervine G. “Buster” Sproul, Nov. 21, 1948 and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary later this year.
Lila and her family lived in Pemaquid for many years, relocating to Newcastle in 1971. For nearly 20 years, she was employed at Waltz Pharmacy, in Damariscotta, where she was well known throughout the community. Her greatest source of pride and love, though, was for her husband, children, grandchildren and her home.
Lila leaves her husband Buster of Newcastle; five children, Paul Sproul and wife Norma of Round Pond, Martha Blanc and husband Gene of Walpole, Susan Sewell and husband Richard of Round Pond, Amy Bissinger and husband Durell Bissinger, Jr. of Phippsburg and Margaret Sproul and husband Randy Wade of Pemaquid; sister, Edith Bond of Jefferson; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Service to honor Lila’s life 11 a.m., Fri., June 6 at the chapel of the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with Pastor Rick Newell officiating. She will be laid to rest, privately, at the Harrington Cemetery, Pemaquid.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Damariscotta.
