Lillian F. Anderson, 84, of Warren, died peacefully Nov. 3 at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland.
Born in Thomaston, Feb. 13, 1928, she was the daughter of James B., Sr. and Lida M. Mank O’Neil. Educated in local schools, she was a 1946 gradate of Thomaston High School, and often reminisced that she graduated with most of the same students with whom she began in the first grade.
On June 7, 1946, she married Arthur E. Anderson in South Thomaston. They made their first home in South Thomaston for several years. In 1957 they moved to Union where they lived until Arthur’s death in 1975. Lillian later moved to Warren with her longtime companion, Richard Young.
While raising her family, Mrs. Anderson worked in health care, including more than 25 years at the Augusta Mental Health Institute.
A devoted member of the Knox County Democrats, she was also an active member of the Mid Coast Ladies Shrine Club, Knox County Extension and AFSCME.
She enjoyed playing cards, but particularly took pleasure in her ‘coffee klatches,’ which often included her longtime close friends, Dorothy Jackson and Marcia Firth.
Mrs. Anderson was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur, and sister, Lois Richards.
She is survived by daughters and their husbands, Linda J. and Reginald Upham of Washington, Mary Ellen Anderson of Nobleboro, Kristi J. and Reginald L. Burns Jr. of Washington, and Heidi J. Anderson-Belcher and husband James H., V. of Warren; sons and their wives, Arthur W. and Nola Anderson of Waldoboro, and James A. and Kim Anderson of Jefferson; brother, James B. O’Neil Jr. and wife Harriet of Thomaston; grandchildren, Reginald M. Upham II, Seth Alan Upham and wife Jennifer, Shane Hannan, Holly Jo Kirkpatrick, Courtney J. Burns, Jared L. Burns and wife Jenn, McKenzie N. Belcher, Miranda P. Belcher, Erick A. Anderson, Ian A. Anderson, Ryan N. Anderson, and Scott J. Anderson; great-grandchildren, Carol Jane Upham, Katherine G. Upham, Derek Smith, Kyle Kirkpatrick, Brady Kirkpatrick, Casey Kirkpatrick, Gavin Lee Burns, and Dakota; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit 6-8 p.m., Wed., Nov. 7 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thurs., Nov. 8. Rev. Rick Newell will officiate. A reception will follow at the funeral home’s 104 Limerock reception center. Interment will be in Village Cemetery, Erin St., Thomaston.
