Lillian M. Glidden, 85, died peacefully on April 22, at Riverside at Chase Point in Damariscotta. Lillian, the daughter of Cassius and Laura (Carpentier) Noyes, was born in Jefferson on Jan. 1, 1929.
Lillian grew up in Jefferson and attended local schools. She worked at the Maine State Hospital, GTE Sylvania in Waldoboro, Hazzard Shoe in Augusta and many local nursing homes in the Jefferson/Washington area. She ran her own adult foster home for over 30 years in Jefferson.
Lillian married Talbot C. Cooley of Washington in February of 1950 and was married for 16 years.
Lillian married her second husband, Richard Glidden, in Whitefield in 1967. Lillian enjoyed playing beano, dancing, listening to music and always had a dog that she was very dedicated to. Lillian was an optimist; a very caring individual and willing to give a helping hand to family and friends. As one of her friends said, “It was difficult to leave her home empty handed”.
Lillian was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary in Washington.
She was predeceased by brothers, Raymond Noyes, Marshall Noyes, Carl Noyes, Willard Noyes and sisters, Clara Hodgkins and June Burns.
Surviving are three children, daughter Sandra Merwin and husband Mike of Jefferson, son Talbot C. (Sonny) Cooley, Jr. and wife Debbie of Washington, and son Alan Cooley of Jefferson; six grandchildren: Chad Merwin of Portsmouth, N.H., Troy Merwin of Strafford, N.H., Greg Cooley of Washington, Karen Kunesh of Washington, Alicia Palotta of Jefferson and Scott Cooley of Washington along with 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Iva Mosher, of Farmingdale; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lillian will be sadly missed by family and friends and all that knew her.
Graveside funeral and committal service will be at Shepherd Cemetery, Route 32, Jefferson at a later date.
