Linda Bates Hazard, 64, of Belfast, died Dec. 6 in Rockport after a six-month battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 3, 1944 in Hanover, N.H., the daughter of William and Doris (Sawyer) Bates. She graduated from Woodstock Union High School (Vt.) in 1962 and from University of Vermont in 1966. She taught primary school in Hampden, Va. and Portland. She earned a Masters of Library Science degree from Clarion University in 1986 and was Librarian at Crosby Junior High School and Troy Howard Middle School, and later became Librarian/Media Specialist for K-8 in the Wiscasset school system until her retirement in June 2008. She was a member of the Maine Teacher’s Association and the Northport Golf Club.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Wayne and Wendall; sister, Marilyn; and grandson, William.
Linda is survived by her husband, Paul Hazard of Belfast; daughters, Kate Hazard of Milford, Mass., and Molly Hazard and husband Paul Mohler of Cary, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kathryn, Caroline and Andrew Mohler; three sisters, Laurel Knapp and husband Greg of Fair Haven, Vt., Beverly Severance and husband Lloyd of Bridgewater, Vt., and Arlene Henson and husband George of Deep River, Conn.; many nieces and nephews; and special niece and grand-nephew, Michelle and Tyler Lavin of Fair Haven, Vt.
Private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
