Lois Cummings Johnson, 79, of Boothbay Harbor, passed away peacefully on Oct. 14 at Maine Medical Center, Portland, after a brief illness.
Lois was born in Augusta on May 31, 1930. She was the daughter of Martin and Gladys (Stapleford) Murphy, and the adopted daughter of Charles Wesley and Alice Tobey Cummings. She graduated from Cony High School in 1948 and attended UMO for two years, where she met her husband. They resided at Claryknoll Farm, Jefferson.
In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Lois worked at Cony High School Library, then in the healthcare field at Augusta General Hospital. After 1975, she lived in Hallowell and Augusta, where she expressed her love of the theater through involvement with the Augusta Players and the Gaslight Theater (Hallowell). She settled in the Boothbay area around 1985, where she held several positions at St. Andrews Hospital until she retired. She was an avid reader and a passionate gardener, and was devoted to her children.
Lois is survived by four sisters and one brother; her children, W. Raymond Johnson III of Chicago, Ill. and Luxor, Egypt, Carolyn E. Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., C. Wesley Johnson of Albion, R.I., Elizabeth M. Johnson of Pasadena, Cal., and Ann J. Bond and husband Greg of Jefferson; grandchildren, Audra Johnson and Ayla Johnson of Rhode Island; and one great-grandchild.
At Lois’s request, there will be no services.
