Lorna D. (Lothrop) Lewis, 83, of Westbrook, formerly of Scarborough, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024 at Sedgewood Commons, with her daughter by her side. She was born on Sept. 18, 1940, in Portland to Dorothy (Poole) Lothrop.
Lorna graduated from Cathedral High School and Westbrook Junior College. She worked at New England Telephone where she remained until she married the love of her life, Wendell B. Lewis Jr. on May 16, 1964. They resided in Westbrook, Portland, and Yarmouth where they started their family. Their son, Aaron, was born in 1968 followed by their daughter, Amy, in 1971.
Lorna and Wendell were known for their love of real estate, buying and building many homes. That passion brought them to Yarmouth, Wiscasset, Ocean Point, Barter’s Island, Topsham, and Damariscotta. Known as “gypsies” to many of their friends, they forged strong, lifelong friendships with many including Linda Armstrong, Robert and Mary Arsenault, and James B. McCallister. Lorna was married to Wendell for 45 years until his sudden passing in 2009.
Shortly thereafter, Lorna moved to Scarborough, making many friends and memories with fellow neighbors. She cherished her friendship with Gary and Bonnie Littlefield. They always had an open door, invited her to dinner and were the best of neighbors along with many others.
Lorna was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2021 which ultimately forced another move. She resided at Stroudwater Lodge then moved to Avita Memory Care at the end of January. Though her time was short at Avita, she was very fond of all the residents and staff. Mom always had a smile on her face through all her struggles.
Lorna was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Lothrop; aunts, Cora Poole, of Portland, Edna Bradshaw, of Kezar Falls; and Wendell, her beloved husband of 45 years. She is survived by her children: Aaron, of Cumberland, Amy (Lewis) Sinclair and husband, Matthew, of Scarborough; grandsons, Benjamin Lewis, of Scarborough, Nicholas Lewis, of Tempe, Ariz., Adam Lewis, of Scarborough; granddaughters, Haley Davis, of Atlanta, Ga. and Natalie Sinclair, of Scarborough.
There will be no services. A private burial will be held later this summer in Damariscotta.
