Lottie Mary Richards, 86, of Damariscotta, died April 11 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. She was born on Oct. 1, 1924, the first of six children born to George J. Hahn and Gladys D. McLain Hahn. Lottie graduated from Waldoboro High School in the class of 1942.
She married John Douglas Richards in 1949 and they made their home in Waldoboro.
Lottie worked for Depositors Trust Bank and retired from Key Bank after 25 years of service.
Lottie’s favorite times in life were spent with her family. Although she had no children of her own, Lottie was a loving and generous aunt to her numerous nieces and nephews. Her knowing smile, gentle demeanor, and exceptional listening skills made her a favorite aunt. Lottie loved spending time at the ocean, whether she was lounging in an Adirondack chair enjoying a soft ocean breeze, cruising the waters off Friendship Harbor or hiking around her birthplace, Bremen Long Island. In her younger years, Lottie traveled extensively, her favorite destination being Hawaii. And it must be noted, Lottie savored every bite of a tasty holiday meal. A delicious meal shared with family always resulted in her sweet and satisfied smile.
Lottie was predeceased by her parents; husband, John Douglas Richards; brother, Wendell Hahn; and sister, Helen Hallowell.
She is survived by sisters, Virginia Kennedy of Waldoboro and Joanne Miller of Damariscotta; brother, Robert Hahn of Damariscotta; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
There will be a private family service in July at the Shuman Cemetery in Waldoboro.
Should friends desire, contributions in Lottie’s memory may be made to the animal shelter of your choice.
