Louis J. Busby Jr., 65, of Edgecomb, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 28 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. Born in Portland on May 15, 1945, he was the son of Donna E. (Davidson) and Louis J. Busby Sr. The family moved from Newcastle to Maryland, where he spent his formative years.
Louis attended Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1967. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving the Bronze Star and an Honorable Discharge. He was a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, at Mine Safety Appliances, Instrument Division, in Baltimore, Md. and Cranberry Township, Penn., for over 30 years. He retired from the company in 2007, but remained active as a consultant for MSA. In the spring of 2007 he returned with his wife Alida, to his beloved family farm.
Louis enjoyed traveling worldwide and was fluent in several languages. He enjoyed and appreciated music and the arts, and was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society since 1988.
He was predeceased by his father, Louis J. Busby Sr. in June of 2010.
He is survived by his wife Alida of Edgecomb; mother, Donna E. Busby of Maryland; stepdaughters, Jennifer Landis and husband James of Jacksonville, Fla. and Karin Muller and husband Matthew of Columbia, Md.; sisters, Jean Gunn and Marguerite Towson, both of Maryland; nieces, Sarah Anderson and Angela Fleming; three step-grandchildren; one great-step granddaughter; two great-nephews; one great-niece; and other extended family and friends.
Graveside service will be held in the spring at the Davidson Ancestral Cemetery in Edgecomb.
