Louisa Soule, 91, of Wiscasset, passed away July 31 surrounded by her family.
Born in Needham, Mass., she was the daughter of Jay G. and Louisa P. (Wheeler) Hamilton. Louisa had a sister, Margaret Sproul, and a brother Jay G. Hamilton Jr. She and her beloved sister Peg Sproul both passed away at Miles Memorial Hospital/Cove’s Edge on July 31 within 20 minutes of each other.
She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1936 and married Samuel J. E. Soule on Feb. 1, 1941. Louisa worked for many years at Montsweag Restaurant in Wiscasset. One of her most memorable customers was actor, Paul Newman. In their retirement years, Louisa and Sam spent many winters at Camp Town in Kissimmee, Fla. and enjoyed traveling and camping with their friends and family.
Louisa and Sam raised three children, Samuel, Thomas, and Sandra. They also assisted in raising Pamela and Ann Brackett upon the early death of their parents. They raised many dogs over the years and were especially fond of Sparky and Kelly. Louisa was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed picnics at the hunting camp, swimming in Montsweag River and the Chewonki Campground, as well as watching her grandchildren’s games. Louisa was a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, the Women of St. Philip’s group at the church, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 54 of Wiscasset. She especially enjoyed working on church events: the fish chowder suppers, Strawberry Festival and the rummage sales.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sam on April 1, 2004; son-in-law, Wayne Adams on April 28, 2001; and brother, Jay G. Hamilton Jr. Sept. 15, 1992.
Survivors include sons, Samuel D. Soule and wife Pamela of Westport Island, and Thomas Soule and wife Linda of Wiscasset; daughter, Sandra Adams of Wiscasset; grandchildren, Clay Adams, Nicole Adams, Samuel D. Soule III, Bethany Soule, Jason Soule and Vanessa Broga; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Mitchell Adams, B.J. and Connor Ray, Paige Botts, and Hanna and Emma Broga.
Funeral service 2 p.m., Thurs., Aug. 5 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, followed by a private family burial.
