Louise A. Stanley, 68, of Newcastle, passed away peacefully at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta on Dec. 10 following a long and debilitating illness. Born in Damariscotta on June 3, 1942, she was the daughter of Creston G. and Kathlyn N. Bryant of Newcastle.
Louise attended local schools and always excelled academically. She graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1960 before attending and graduating from the University of Maine, Orono where she studied to become an elementary school teacher.
She became a very devoted second grade teacher in Chillicothe, Ohio as well as at the Millet School in Gorham. She later took several art classes and produced some amazing drawings and paintings that everyone admired. Her love of art and animals kept her occupied as her health failed.
She will always be remembered by friends and family for her kindness, compassion, and loving nature. She belonged to many worthy causes that benefited animals and minorities and was passionate about saving our planet. Before her illness became too advanced, she always loved visiting beautiful natural areas, gazing at the ocean along the coast, and experiencing new people and places. She loved the west, and one time took a road trip to Montana and Wyoming with her best friend. She also loved western movies and television shows.
Louise is survived by her son, Donald G. Stanley of Newcastle and Boothbay; brother, Paul S. Bryant and wife Linda Bryant of Newcastle; cousin, David Bryant of Rancho Mirage, Cal.; cousins, Karen Bishop and husband Larry of North Anson, Vicki Knights of Skowhegan, Mark Mercier of Smithfield and Kim Dilella and husband Glenn of Southampton, Penn.; as well as a niece and three nephews.
At her request there will be no formal service. A small, family graveside gathering will be held at the Pine Knoll Cemetery in Newcastle.
If desired, donations may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 27 Atlantic Highway, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
