Louise Gardner Chadwick Lippmann, 93, of Newcastle, died Feb. 20 at Amenity Manor in Topsham after a long period of failing health.
Louise was born Sept. 9, 1915 in Damariscotta, the daughter of Wallace Wilton and Martha Frances Gardner Chadwick, and attended local schools.
She was employed by the New England Shipbuilding Corporation in South Portland, the Waldoboro Shoe Company and Sylvania, both in Waldoboro, and was a self employed house cleaner.
Her interests included gardening, sewing and painting as well as traveling with her husband, whose trips include going to East Germany in the early 1970s, before the “Wall” came down. Her love of community and neighbors showed through her memories and stories told of town people and events that she had experienced throughout her life, which she readily shared. She also often entertained friends, family and caregivers with jokes and playful comments.
Her love of music was observed throughout her life from her favorite country western singers, old hymns, most probably taken from the Methodist hymnal since her grandfather was a Methodist minister, popular songs from the 1930s through the 50s and especially she enjoyed the musical programs on MPBN television.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Carroll French; second husband, Ernest Alfred Otto Lippmann; brother, Wallace Chadwick; and sisters, Barbara F. Chadwick, Virginia R. Chadwick and Olivia M. Chadwick.
Survivors include her brother, Jason H. Chadwick and wife Patricia, of Mt. Kisco, N.Y.; sisters, Priscilla E. Chadwick Jones of Newcastle, and Helen Chadwick Skelton of South Portland; and nephews and nieces, Wilton Jones and wife Judy of Newcastle, Jeffrey Jones of Brewer, Barbara Bard and husband Rod of Hooksett, N.H., Jean Libby and husband Ray of Brunswick, Deborah Chadwick-Bailey and husband Tom of Round Ridge, N.Y., Cindy Chadwick of Longmont, Col., Michael Chadwick and wife Kathy of Grand Island, N.Y., Ken Skelton and wife Martha of Florence, Ky., David Skelton and wife Lia of Brunswick, Craig Skelton and wife Marcy of South Portland, and Susie Chadwick-Boscia and husband Frank of Cortland Manor, N.Y.
