Lucille Helen Flye, 86, of Damariscotta, formerly of Washington, passed away Dec. 26 at her home. Born July 14, 1922 in Washington, she was a daughter of Alfred and Jennie (Pierpont) Nash. Following her graduation from Washington High School, Lucille moved to Augusta, where she was employed at Central Maine Power, later relocating to the dental office of Dr. Carl Hutchinson in Damariscotta, working as his assistant. In her later years, Lucille enjoyed volunteering at the Skidompha Library Second Hand Book Shop and the Damariscotta Information Bureau.
On Oct. 10, 1954 she married Ivan Flye of Newcastle and became a homemaker. She and Ivan wintered in Seminole, Fla. for many years. Following his death, she continued to winter in Florida until this past year when her heath failed.
Lucille was a member of the Woman’s Club of Damariscotta and Newcastle for many years. She was an avid bird watcher, indulged in many a book over the years, loved to watch the surf at Pemaquid Point, and put together many puzzles in her lifetime. Lucille truly enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
Lucille was also predeceased by her parents; brother, Marshall; and sister, Marie.
She leaves her children, Judith Graffam of Pemaquid, Martha Gault of Ft. Collins, Col., and Charles Flye of Florida and Connecticut; brother, Richard Nash and friend Doris Ifill of Fairfield; sisters, Marietta Spencer and husband David, Barbara Gushee and husband Robert of Owls Head; special friend, Florence Hutchinson of Damariscotta; 10 grandchildren, Lauren Plumer and Mitchell Plumer of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Kaitlin Gault of Windsor, Col., Paul Sproul, Kathryn Sproul, Samantha Sproul, John Sproul, Brandy Sproul, Aliera Graffam, and Gentry Graffam; and great-grandchildren, Devon Sproul, Richard Sproul and Arianna Sproul.
Lucille will be laid to rest, with a graveside service at the Nash family Cemetery, Jefferson, in the warmth of the spring of 2009.
