Lucille B. “Lulu” Knipe, 77, of Gorham, formerly of New Harbor and Largo, Fla., died Feb. 28 at a local health care facility.
Born on Monhegan Island, she was a daughter of Courtland and Lola Murphy Brackett. She was a 1948 graduate of Bristol High School and later of Pierre’s Beauty School in Portland. She owned and operated her own beauty salon in Wiscasset for several years.
Mrs. Knipe was a longtime volunteer at the VA hospital in Togus. She was a member of the Bristol Footlighters, and a longtime member and past matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Along with her late husband, Carmen, she was very active in Kora Temple and its activities. She was an avid golfer and member of Wawenock Country Club in South Bristol. In Florida, she played golf at Largo Country Club. While at her home in Paradise Park in Largo she was very active in social activities there.
Mrs. Knipe was predeceased by her husband, Carmen in 2004 and also by her sister, Natalie Belhorn.
Surviving her are several lifelong friends, especially Gladys and Dick Carter of Gorham. Aunt Cille is also survived by special nieces, Beth Goodrich and Lucille Bowers and their families as well as many special friends all the way from New Harbor to Largo.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral service. Those desiring may contribute in her memory to the Ronald McDonald House, 250 Brackett St., Portland, ME 04102.
