Lucy M. Snowman, 95, a lifetime resident of Southport, died Dec. 11 at the Safe Havens in Boothbay Harbor.
Lucy was born Sept. 21, 1914 in Boothbay Harbor, the daughter of Melville and Maude Burnham Alley, and is a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School.
She married Leland M. Snowman at a young age, and together raised their five children on Southport where she worked different odd jobs, including Robinson’s Wharf baking pies, caretaking her neighbors and cleaning homes.
An active community member, Lucy was a member of the Southport United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women, and Southport Mothers Club, served a term on the school board, and enjoyed cooking for many community events.
She is predeceased by her husband, Leland Snowman, who died in 1999, and her five siblings.
Survivors include her children, Nancy Hurst and husband John of Boothbay Harbor, Beverly Tibbetts and husband Gordon of Southport, Sylvia Norwood and husband Norman of Southport, Linda Dowling of Southport, and Gary Snowman and wife Stephanie of Topsham; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m., Fri., Dec. 18 at the Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Celebration of Lucy’s life 2 p.m., Sat., Dec. 19 at the Southport United Methodist Church, with Rev. Lisa Burger officiating. Interment will be in the Decker Cemetery.
