Luella Giberson, 89, of Phippsburg, passed away Sept. 29 at the home of her son in Nobleboro with her loving family at her side. She was born in Gardiner on Oct. 16, 1922, a daughter of Clyde and Leona Leighton.
Luella was a graduate of Gardiner High School. After graduating high school she married her husband of 70 years, Richard A. Giberson, and relocated briefly to Chicago area for his naval training. They returned home to Maine to raise their children in Bath on Mechanic Street, before moving to Brightwater on the New Meadows River in Phippsburg where they still own a home.
She had been a longtime employee of various area banks including Bath National Bank where she spent most of her working career retiring in 1980. She enjoyed knitting sweaters for her grand and great-grandchildren, cooking, gardening and was an avid Red Sox fan.
She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Landerkin.
She is survived by husband, Richard A. Giberson of Phippsburg; daughter, Sandra Perkins of Dover, Del.; son, Richard F. Giberson of Nobleboro; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours 2-4 p.m., Tues., Oct. 2 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Mass of Christian burial 1 p.m., Wed., Oct. 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gardiner. Burial will follow with committal prayers in St. Joseph Cemetery, Gardiner.
