M. Fanny Pagurko (Ann), 83, formerly of Newcastle and Wiscasset, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on July 9. Born in Newcastle on March 17, 1929, she was the daughter of Leo D. and Glovina C. Sidelinger.
She played softball (first base) and basketball (guard) for Lincoln Academy, and participated in junior prize speaking, winning third place. After graduation she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the government. She lived in Maryland and Oklahoma before returning to Maine.
Ann worked for Coles Woodshop in Newcastle for six years, earned her CNA in 1977, ran a daycare for many years, and in 1988 she opened an antique shop at her Wiscasset residence. For six years, she was the sole caregiver for her mother.
Ann was a lifelong avid walker, trekking many miles in all kinds of weather. She loved to knit, enjoyed playing a variety of games with friends and family, and was a very active and loving grandmother.
Ann is survived by her children, James L. Begley Jr. and wife Susan of Palm Bay, Fla., Terry Sullivan and husband Pat of Lexington Park, Md., Bonnie York of Damariscotta, Johnna Stinchfield and husband Jeff of Oakland, and John J. Pagurko III and wife Melanie of Whitefield; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Time to visit with the family 1-2 p.m., Sun., July 15 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m.
