Mabel Brackett, 98, of Boothbay Harbor, died April 26 at her home. She was born in Boothbay Harbor Feb. 9, 1908, the daughter of John and Martha Tibbetts Brackett. She graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School, then went on to get her RN degree at Massachusetts General Hospital. Following her graduation in 1940, she briefly did private duty nursing before joining the staff at St. Andrews Hospital in 1941. She worked at St. Andrews for 35 years and in 1943 was named Director of Nursing Services. She retired in June 1975. Mabel was a life member of the American Hospital Association. She also held membership in the Maine Hospital Association and the New England Hospital Assembly. In 1937, she became a member of Mt. Pisgah Chapter Order of the Eastern Stars. She remained active in the Lincoln County Orchestra for 16 years, the Choralaires for 12 years, and was a member of St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary. In 1981, the Rotary Club honored her by presenting her the Lifetime Service Award. She is predeceased by four brothers, John, Gale, Max and Dana Brackett. She is survived by niece and husband, Gail & Cliff Allen of Florida. Graveside service 11 a.m., Thurs., May 4 at the Oceanview Cemetery. Reception will follow the service at Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay, Me.
