Madeleine Boyd, of Damariscotta, passed away peacefully on June 20 at Cove’s Edge after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born to Arthur and Albina Coache in Marlboro, Mass., sharing life with two brothers and two sisters. After attending secretarial school in Boston, she worked for the Administrator of St. Mark’s School in Southboro, Mass. She married William Boyd of Hudson, Mass. in 1946 and began a long term secretarial position with the Leroy and Richard Temple Law Firm of Marlboro. Upon the death of William, she retired to Damariscotta in 1986, and became a volunteer for Cove’s Edge at the Adult Day Care Center.
Madeleine was very involved in fund raising for Catholic entities in Massachusetts and New York. She traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad, inspired by her interest and fascination of nature, history and the arts. She enjoyed playing cards, making crafts, watching for deer in the meadow, fishing Downeast and attending flea markets.
Madeleine was lovingly devoted to her longtime companion Larry Emery of Eastport and is survived by her sister, Dorothy Collins of Las Vegas, Nev.; sons, Richard and wife Joanna of Henderson, Nev. and Jerry and wife Joanne of Petersham, Mass.; daughter, Donna and husband Edward of Jefferson; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Massachusetts and Florida.
A celebration of Madeleine’s life will be held at a later date.
