Madelene Snipe Jones, 96, of Wiscasset, died Dec. 22 at Glen Ridge Nursing Home in Augusta.
She was born in Arrowsic on Nov. 12, 1913, a daughter of Edward B. and Bessie (Palmer) Snipe.
She attended Arrowsic schools and Morse High School in Bath. She was employed as a chef at Miss Wiscasset Diner, Hubers Market, Fairfield’s Restaurant and the Lincoln County Jail, all in Wiscasset. She was employed as a first class welder at the Harding Plant in Brunswick during WWII. She also has been employed as a housekeeper at Florida hotels, and the former Wiscasset Inn, and owned and operated the former Casey’s Restaurant in Wiscasset.
She was a member of the Wiscasset Church of Nazarene in Wiscasset.
She enjoyed her dogs, cooking, gardening and spending the winters in Florida.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur E. Jones in 1973 and sister, Louisa Koehling on March 15, 2008.
She is survived by one son, Arthur E. Jones Jr. of Mexico; grandson, Chris Jones and wife Manasi Ramanna of England; granddaughter, Angela Goldenstar and husband Laurence; daughter-in-law, Carla Wolken; nephew, Bernard Koehling of Wiscasset, and nieces, Barbara Apt of Wiscasset, Joanne Brown of Wiscasset, and Roberta Clark of Topsham.
Graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring.
