Madeline Elizabeth Simmons Ross, 83, of Jefferson, passed away peacefully, on the evening of Oct. 17, at her home with family by her side. Born on March 13, 1931 in Waldoboro, she was the daughter of the late Pearl A. and Ida May (Sprague) Simmons Sr.
Madeline attended school in Waldoboro. Over the years she worked at Fieldcrest Manor, Crowe Rope, Sylvania, and Camden Health Care Center. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and reading, and was known for her homemade biscuits. As a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, she was sure to watch a game any chance she could.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Lester E. Simmons, Thomas W. Simmons Sr., Pearl A. Simmons Jr., Stanley L. Simmons, and Dorothy L. Simmons Jackson; and brother-in-law, Albert Reed.
Madeline is survived by her children, Deanna Bernier and companion Norman Giguere of Auburn, Mark Ross Sr. and wife Ronner of Warren, Neal Ross Sr. and companion Kathy Webber of Bremen, Deborah Severson and husband Howard “Andy” Sr. of Waldoboro, Mitchell Ross and wife Valeta of Waldoboro, Deidre Waisanen and husband John II of Auburn, Danny Ross and wife Lynn of Chelsea, and Timothy Ross and wife Tina of Jefferson; siblings, Evelyn M. Reed of Waldoboro, Wayne W. Simmons and wife Barbara of Waldoboro, Dianne A. Grenier and husband Dick of Winslow, Wendell H. “Billy” Simmons of Waldoboro, and Rose M. Hill and husband Daryl of Warren; as well as 25 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation, from 6-8 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 23 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St. in Damariscotta. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Fri., Oct. 24, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Shuman Cemetery, Washington Road in Waldoboro.
