Madeline Frances (Spear) Collins, 97, of Boothbay, passed away on Oct. 13 at Cove’s Edge Nursing Home.
Born March 19, 1910 at home in East Boothbay, she was the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Poor) Spear.
She went to elementary school in East Boothbay, and high school at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle from which she graduated in 1928. Shortly after graduating, she went to Boston where she met the “love of her life”, Robert Collins, who predeceased her in 1978. She spent most of her working years as bookkeeper at the Copley Plaza Hotel while living in Boston.
Madeline and Bob retired to East Boothbay in the 1970’s. She enjoyed her retirement years playing bridge and writing the East Boothbay news for the Boothbay Register for several years.
She was actively involved in the East Boothbay Methodist Church and was a member of the Boothbay Region Coastal Club for many years.
Madeline was predeceased by her parents, and two brothers, Ellsworth and Donald.
She leaves many fond memories with her family: brothers, Shirley Spear and wife Mary Rose (Cecile) Spear of Hampton, and Charles Spear of South Casco; sisters, Virginia Stapleford and husband Vernon of Boothbay Harbor, and Constance Sullivan of Cumberland Center; and several nieces and nephews across the country.
Graveside service 1 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 18 at Oceanview Cemetery in Boothbay with Rev. Carol Stevens officiating.
