Malcolm Louville (Mac) Tilton, 94, of Jefferson, passed away Jan. 9 at Maine General Hospital, Augusta.
He was born April 29, 1913, in Burnham, the son of Ora F. and Bina Whitten Tilton. He was raised by his grandparents, Fred and Olive Tilton.
He was educated in public schools in Burnham, and graduated from Unity High School in 1931, and the University of Maine College of Agriculture in 1936, where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and Alpha Zeta Honor Society.
He married Doris A. Clark on July 5, 1937, at Higgins Beach in Scarborough.
Following college Mac taught vocational agriculture and science at Patten Academy for two years. He was principal at Canton High School from 1938-1942, worked four years at North East Shipbuilding Corp. in South Portland, taught biology at South Portland High School, and taught vocational agriculture for two years at Waldoboro High School from 1946-1948.
Mac operated a poultry farm in Jefferson from 1947-1958. He founded the Tilton Insurance Agency in Jefferson in 1958. After retirement in 1975, Mac and Doris spent winters in Lakeland, Fla. for 20 years.
In Jefferson, Mac served on the Board of Selectmen for three years, was a member for over 50 years and Past Master of Willow Grange, was a member for over 64 years and Past Master of Riverside Lodge, was a member of Eastern Star, and was treasurer of the Village Cemetery for 43 years.
Mac was predeceased by his wife of nearly 68 years, Doris, who died in 2005; and half-brother, Robert Tilton of Augusta.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna Slicer and husband Ronald of Jefferson and Jean Bryant and husband Roger of Jefferson; grandchildren, Vicki Bryant, Robert Everett and wife Vicki, Susan Foster and husband Kenneth, Susan Corcoran and husband Francis, and Brenda Scherer and husband Eric; great-grandchildren, Chloe Bryant, Leslie, Kellie, and Benjamin Everett, Ethan and Andrew Foster, Jamie and Michael Corcoran, and Kyle and Devin Scherer; and cousins, Kay Newman, Marjorie Bolger, Merlon Tilton, Wayne Tilton, and Helen Willett.
Memorial service 3 p.m., Mon., Jan. 21 at the First Baptist Church, Jefferson.
