Malcolm “Mac” Ridley, 92, of Nobleboro, passed away on Oct. 18 at Cove’s Edge following several years of declining health. Mac was the son of Eugene and Ruby (Davis) Ridley, and was born in Poland on July 5, 1926. He moved to Nobleboro in 1952 with his wife, Mona, and son, Steven.
Mac was a Seaman 1st class in the Navy; he served in the Pacific Theatre in the latter days of WWII. When he came home, he worked as a carpenter and then as a driver for HP Hoods & Sons egg division. He completed the University of Maine Farrier Program in 1967. In the late 1960s/early 1970s, he spent time working at Bath Iron Works while building his horse shoeing business. He spent many years with his business and became well known throughout the area. He retired from horse shoeing when in his early 80s.
Mac was a member of King Solomon’s Masonic Lodge in Waldoboro. He always enjoyed the company of others and was a regular at Moody’s Diner for afternoon coffee. He was quick to help others in need of a hand, and he enjoyed a good joke.
Mac was predeceased by his wife, Mona; and son, Steven.
He is survived by daughter, Kathleen and husband William of Warwick, R.I.; grandchildren, Sarah Geroux of Belfast, Tessa Ducharme and husband Peter of Walden, Vt., Iain Ridley and wife Tatiana of Castro Valley, Cal., Andrew Niedfeldt and wife Edwina of Warwick, R.I., Steven Ridley II of Freeport, and Anne Niedfeldt of Warwick, R.I.; and great-grandchildren, Cody Beaucage, Kaleigh Beaucage, Catherine Ridley, Elizabeth Ridley, and Malcolm Niedfeldt.
A celebration of Mac’s life will be held at a later date.
