Margaret E. Davies, of Wiscasset, died Jan. 11 at Mid Coast Senior Health Care Center, Brunswick.
She was born Margaret Estelle Tannahill in Virginia City in 1918. A top scholar she helped out by tutoring some of her Piute Indian classmates. Later she graduated from University High School, then went on to get a degree in economics.
She married a Coast Guard officer, Ward Davies, and made her home in Alaska, California, Washington and half a dozen eastern states.
Margaret lived a very full life. She loved gardens and started them wherever she lived. She was a much-experienced traveler in the USA and in Europe. She was active as librarian in a Catholic school, as a religion teacher, as a Girl Scout leader and as a Boy Scout Den Mother. She helped as a member of a Salvation Army Advisory Board and took part in Audubon Society bird counts. She was a docent in the art galley on the Bowdoin campus.
Margaret leaves behind her husband; two sons; two daughters; ten grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m., Tues., Jan. 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bath.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
