Margaret Elizabeth Nichols, 79, of New Harbor, passed away suddenly on April 29 at the Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. She was born on Sept. 9, 1929 in Rumford, the daughter of Leroy and Isabelle (Tasker) Bowden.
She was educated in Rumford schools and graduated from Stephens High School in 1947. While in school she was active in sports and participated in many school activities and clubs.
Margaret enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing with her father, swimming, skiing and ice-skating. On May 23, 1964 she married Arthur E. Nichols in Watchung, N.J. and they later purchased a home in Bridgewater, N.J.
Margaret enjoyed being a stay at home mother for her two girls until the oldest was in high school. While living in Bridgewater, they were active members of the Sunset Lake Association and the Pluckemin Presbyterian Church. In 1988 Margaret and Arthur retired and moved their family to New Harbor. Margaret enjoyed living near the ocean with all that it has to offer.
In recent years Margaret and Arthur enjoyed taking numerous cruises and vacations with family and friends. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, making Italian food, and a good game of cribbage.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Arthur Nichols; two daughters, Elizabeth Savadge and husband Ed, their two children, Emily and Andrew, from Dixfield, and Karen Cheney and her husband Richard Cheney, and their son, Jeffrey from New Harbor.
Service to celebrate Margaret’s life was held at the New Harbor United Methodist Church.
