Margaret Ewell Wilson, 91, of Pittston, passed away Jan. 26 at Glen Ridge Nursing Home, Augusta.
She was born June 28, 1916, in North Smithfield, R.I., a daughter of the late Austin and Mary Laworrall Wilson. She attended local schools and was a member of the Society of Friends in North Smithfield, R.I.
She worked as a housekeeper and in a cotton mill before moving to Maine. Upon moving to Maine, she was employed as an LPN in a Coopers Mills nursing home, presently called Country Manor. She was very proud to work her last 32 years at the Augusta Mental Health Institute where she was admired for her wonderful work ethic, missing only one day of work for her mother s funeral.
She will be remembered as a feisty, independent, and proud woman who loved her family, friends, and her niece’s dog, Casey. She was very fond of Bev Gray, whose long-term care allowed her to stay in her own home for several years.
She was predeceased by five siblings.
Margaret is survived by nieces, Mary Martha Collins and husband Ned of Jefferson, Joan Roberts and husband Fred of New Hampshire, Carol Aulich of California, Marilyn Perron of New Guinea, and Dr. Constance Wilson of Washington; nephews, Dr. Roger Wilson and wife Melba of Bar Harbor, David Wilson and wife Elsie of Massachusetts, Ralph Wilson and wife Barbara of Massachusetts, and Ernest Wilson of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Eleanor Wilson of Jefferson; and great-nieces, Heidi Johnson of New Hampshire, Margaret Suydam of New Hampshire, and Linda Roberts of New Hampshire.
A spring committal service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Jefferson at a date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to the American Cancer Society, NE Division, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
