Margaret Hoyt Guinasso, 50, of Portland, Ore., a lifelong summer resident of Long Cove, died Nov. 19 in Oregon.
She was born Sept. 28, 1959 to the late William F. Hoyt Jr. and Muriel A. Pennant, of Long Cove. She leaves behind her husband, John Guinasso, and children, Charles and Jennifer Guinasso.
Margaret, a non-smoker, hoped to change the perception of lung cancer as a “smoker’s disease” and fought valiantly to beat it and increase awareness of the fact that half the people who get lung cancer don’t smoke.
Margaret was a 1977 graduate of Aloha High School and earned a bachelor of arts in education from the University of Oregon. She also attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood and Portland State University. She loved modeling, theater and teaching elementary aged children. Although she took a break from teaching and modeling as she raised her family, she returned to it in the past ten years and enjoyed portraying the “soccer mom” persona in Oregon-based ads.
But mostly, Margaret loved her family. She embraced her Christianity and, although she fought hard to live, she looked forward to a new journey with Christ in the next life.
She was predeceased by her father; sister, Jane Hoyt; and father-in-law, Charles Guinasso.
In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her mother; mother-in-law, Rose Guinasso of Portland, Ore.; sister, Elizabeth M. Harris and husband Dr. Irwin Harris of Santa Barbara, Cal.; brother, William F. Hoyt III of Long Cove; sister, Anna C. H. Lyon and husband George W. Lyon of Wayne; sister-in-law, Carla Guinasso, of Portland, Ore.; nephews, Dr. Aaron Harris of Atlanta, Ga., Sean Harris of San Francisco, Cal., and Joel Lyon of Wayne; and nieces, Meaghan “Katie” Lyon of Wayne, and Nicole Leslie and Gina Leslie of Portland, Ore.
