Margaret Louise Oxton, 86, a longtime resident of Warren, passed away Oct. 23 at her daughter’s home in Jefferson.
She was born Aug. 21, 1922 in Warren, the daughter of the late Herbert and Eva Hopkins Nutter. She was a graduate of Warren High School and worked for Moody’s Diner.
On Jan. 7, 1942 she married the late Carl Oxton. While he was in the service, they lived in Tennessee, Nebraska and when he was stationed in Alaska, she returned to their home in Warren. Upon returning to Maine, she loved to get her hands into the dirt and enjoyed organic gardening, especially growing flowers. She enjoyed making handcrafts.
She loved spending time with her two granddaughters but was overjoyed when they had grandsons, the first boys born to the family in over 100 years. They enjoyed family gatherings as well as going to public suppers together.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Oxton.
Survivors include her daughter, Carlene King and husband Edward of Jefferson; granddaughters, Jolene Patterson of Port Washington, Wis., and Nadean Crossley of Jefferson; great-grandchildren, Seth, Garret and Connor Patterson of Port Washington, Wis., and Nathan and Kevin Crossley of Jefferson; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Preston of Thomaston, and Glenn Oxton of Rockland; brother-in-law, Paul Oxton of Aiken, S.C., and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Margaret’s life 10 a.m., Tues., Oct. 28 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Burial will follow at the Sawyer Cemetery in Warren. Rev. Robert Dorr will officiate.
