Margaret MacDonald, of Boothbay, passed away on Nov. 14 after a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Frank and Martha Brown.
She worked at The Montreal Children’s Hospital and The Montreal General Hospital where she was in charge of the tumor registry. She moved to Taunton, Mass. in 1969. She worked as a medical receptionist in Foxboro, Mass. and in medical records at Sturdy Hospital in Attleboro, Mass. She married her husband in 1977 and lived in Foxboro, Mass.
In 1995, she and her husband retired to Boothbay. She was very involved at the Southport United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and worked on the woman’s missionary committee. She was also a member of the garden club. She was a lifelong dog lover. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, music, knitting, needlework, gardening, and bird watching. She loved to go shopping with her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter. She was a devoted fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins.
She was predeceased by a younger sister, Edith Brown, who passed away at an early age.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 years, Dr. John B. MacDonald; daughter, Lida Watters and husband Bruce of Bennington, Vt.; son, Alan Kopecky of Taunton, Mass.; granddaughter, Jessica Kopecky and fiancé Dantes Lanausse; and great-granddaughter, Annalena Lanausse of Swansea, Mass.; cousins, Mrs. Joan Noonan of Vineland, Ontario, Canada and Stephanie Noonan of Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada; and her husband’s children, Alexander, Laura, Margaret, Ian, George, Neil and Eric and many grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held 11 a.m., Tues., Nov. 17 at the Southport United Methodist Church with Pastor Ami Sawtelle and Desmond Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Sprucelawn Cemetery in Southport.
