Margaret A. (Maudsley) Helstosky, 82, of Nobleboro, formerly of Simsbury, Conn., wife of the late Stanley Helstosky, died Nov. 2 in Branford, Conn.
Margaret was born Feb. 19, 1934 in North Providence, R.I., daughter of the late William B. Maudsley and Constance W. (Arnold) Maudsley. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother and grandmother with a feisty spirit and fierce independence.
Margaret grew up in Hartford and attended the Washington Street School and Bulkeley High. She married and raised her three children in Simsbury, Conn. while also working for many years at the University of Hartford and CIGNA, retiring in 1996. After retirement, she focused on gardening and enjoying her grandchildren.
For the last 11 years she resided in Maine, where she volunteered and enjoyed her many friends, nature, reading, opera, and playing bridge.
She was predeceased by son-in-law, Daniel Leger.
Margaret is survived by sisters, Ann Hejna of Middletown, Conn., and Kathryn Coyle of Guilford, Conn.; son, Anthony Helstosky and wife Linda Helstosky of Salem, Conn.; daughters, Jane Helstosky Cremins of Barre, Mass., and Kathryn Costello and husband Kelly Costello of West Hartford, Conn.; and grandchildren, Lauren Helstosky, Constance Anna Helstosky, Margaret Leger Cremins, Heath Costello, and Aidan Costello.
A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Sat., Nov. 12 at St. Mary’s Church, 940 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, Conn. Relatives and friends will be received from 8:30-9:30 a.m., prior to the mass, at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Burial will be in Simsbury Cemetery.
