Margaret Taylor Bond, of Jefferson, who participated in numerous musical and theatrical performances in the mid-coast area died on Nov. 26 at Harbor View Cottage at the Lincoln Home in Newcastle.
Born in Detroit, Mich. in 1927 to Albert and Ella Snyder Taylor, she spent her childhood in Jamestown, R.I. She graduated from Rogers High School ’45 and the Newport Business and Secretarial School, Newport, R.I. In 1953, she married Irvin Hodgkins Bond of Jefferson, where she made her home.
She was classically trained in voice by F. Morse Wemple, professor at the N.E. Conservatory, and Doris Havens Marble of Bremen. She was a longtime member of the St. Andrews Society of Maine, and the National Assoc. of Teachers of Singing, and was passionate about opera.
A soloist at the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Damariscotta for over 30 years, she also was in many musical and theatre productions, including the Augusta Symphony Chorus, Augusta Players, Augusta Cecilia Club, Lincoln County Community Theater, Portland Lyric Theatre, Portland Players, UMA Community Chorus, Waldo Theatre, and Waterville Players. She has performed in many choral and opera concerts, with specialty numbers in Scottish songs and the sword dance. She played the lead roles in “Kiss Me Kate” and “The King and I,” as well as singing parts in many theatre productions.
Among her many endeavors, she was an employee of the State of Maine for many years, and was well known for her beautifully decorated cakes.
She was predeceased by her husband, Irvin H. Bond of Jefferson; and sister, Jean Taylor Middleton of Peacedale, R.I.
She leaves her son, Sheridan T. Bond, Jefferson; daughter, Kimberly Bond and Bruce Robertson of Richmond, R.I.; son, Gregory W. and Ann Bond, of Jefferson; grandchildren, Jonathan T. Bond of Vermont, and William and Stuart Robertson of Richmond, R.I.; and many close relatives in the U.S., Scotland, and the U.K.
Memorial service 2 p.m., Sat., Dec. 10 at the First Baptist Church, 24 Waldoboro Rd., Jefferson.
