Marguerite Canfield Dellenbaugh, 85, of Scarborough, formerly of Vero Beach, Fla., died July 9 at Holbrook Health Center.
She was born in New Haven, Conn. on Nov. 5, 1920, daughter of Cornelia M. Canfield and Ralph E. Herman.
She graduated from The Gateway School in 1938, and from Wellesley College in 1942. She was a commissioned Ensign URNS(W) on active duty in Washington, D.C. as a Communications Watch Officer in WWII.
On June 15, 1946, she married Frederick S. Dellenbaugh III, who predeceased her in 1984. She raised four daughters in Fairfield, Conn., engaging in numerous civic volunteer activities in schools, libraries and museums, and was voted Volunteer of the Year by the Junior League of Bridgeport, Conn. She mentored at Beachland Elementary School, Vero Beach, Fla.
A professional artist since 1975, her watercolors and acrylics have been shown in galleries in Florida, Connecticut and Maine, and are in private collections in the U.S. and Europe. She helped found the Vero Beach Center for the Arts and was on the Board of the Vero Beach Concert Association.
She was an active member of Christ by the Sea, Methodist, Vero Beach, and St. Albans, Cape Elizabeth, where she participated in healing services and Bible study, and led prayer groups.
She is survived by her four daughters, Cornelia and Meg of New York City, Caro of Freeport, and Anne and her partner Phyllis Austin of Brunswick; and two grandchildren, Burgut and Jareka.
Memorial service 11 a.m., Thurs., July 13 at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 885 Shore Rd., Cape Elizabeth.
